Reinspection of Periodic Inspections (PTI)

Vehicles shall be failed whenever:

  • More than five type 1 deficiencies are noted in different deficiency codes;
  • One or more type 2 or 3 deficiencies are noted.
  • The deficiency or deficiencies previously recorded has/have not been corrected, (type 1 becomes type 2), except those relating to the vehicle registration certificate.
  • Whenever the state of cleanliness of the vehicle hampers observations during the inspection.

A type 1 deficiency which is not corrected shall automatically become a type 2 deficiency, except as indicated in the first paragraph. In the case of a type 2 deficiency, the level of deficiency shall not change to type 3 and the vehicle shall remain failed.

Where the vehicle has been approved with type 1 deficiencies or failed on inspection, it may, within 30 days, return to the inspection centre to confirm that the defects recorded have been corrected.

The time limit referred to above shall be reduced to 15 days whenever on inspection or reinspection the deficiencies recorded on the previous inspection form have not been remedied in good time (except for deficiencies relating to the vehicle registration certificate).

If on reinspection new deficiencies are identified that were not previously detected and that result in the failure of the vehicle, it may, within 30 days, return to the inspection centre to confirm that the defects have been corrected.

Optional Inspections

Optional inspections are carried out on the initiative of the vehicle owners, to check the characteristics or safety conditions of vehicles. This is recommended when purchasing used vehicles.
